Remixing Again and it feels so good!

Free dresser remix and it's not your average once over!
We got a free dresser from some friends that are moving far, far away :( not happy about their move but grateful people give me their old junk when they leave! So my boys were in desperate and I mean desperate need of a dresser in their room.  Right now they have this little teensy eensy little thing and some plastic totes.  Needless to say it aint workin.  So when we scored this dresser we were pumped.  I had been researching what I wanted for their room.  It really doesn't have much of a theme but we like nostalgic type stuff so we started there.

We decided to go a navy, cobaltish kind of blue.  Well what actually happened is we had very limited time one afternoon while we were out and I ran and I mean ran into Lowes and grabbed whatever sample paint most closely matched my idea in my brain.  There it was already mixed cheap as could be.  I did this ENTIRE remix with ONE sample paint can. You can't even call it a can it's like a mini pickle jar or something.  So I lightly sanded it just to make sure there wasn't any residue or gunk like sticky tape or glue leftover.  Then I began to paint.  And it went fast and the hardest part believe it or not wasn't applying the maps, but finding them.  We had the UTAH map but we lost or threw away the S.C. map.  I went to 5 gas stations, a Walgreens, 1 hotel,  Cracker Barrel, World Market, Target and FINALLY to a Walmart before I found a map!??!?!  I mean I know we have GPS now and everything but maps are good they're important and they are good cheap decorations. sheesh.

We found these sweet knobs at World Market the paint at Lowes it's called Indigo Cloth and like I said the maps at Wally World or Walmart.  The pulls we used were also purchased at Lowes.  We had to drill our own holes because the size on the original dresser are not really mass produced at most hardware stores.  I always recommend going to the right knob over the perfect measurement because you can change the measurement if you HAVE to, but make sure you love the knob.  It's important.  It's the knob.
So we Mod Podged the wood where we wanted the map to go then carefully laid the map down.  Mod Podged the top, let it dry, then razored the edges off.  We aren't perfectionist so neither is this dresser but we like it and we have our sanity.  I even accidentally put one of the maps upside down.  But who knows?  Well besides the reader and map dresser inspectors, then nobody else.  We love it and I hope you do too!

'Nother Weddin'

This time my little bro got married!  I was in charge of the "Kiddie Korner"  and we went with a Milk&Cookies theme.  It was a hit and so so cute and well attended by the little ones!
I realized that I somehow didn't photograph the finished product but oh well.  I am going to post some wedding photos

Hutch

I was drivin along in my automobile... and I happened upon a couple of places that sold old furniture.  They weren't thrift stores exactly, I'm not really sure what they were.  Remember the show
Sandford & Son?  It was more like that. So ya a junkyard I guess.  Anyways re-doers like me feel right at home at places like that.  So I pulled up and started wandering around when a big 300 pound fella comes out of nowhere (how did he do that?  I have no idea) and asks me what I'm interested in. I see this hutch and ask what he wants for it, he tells me if I'll take it right now I can have it for 60$ I agree and he follows me home.  Which I realize isn't the smartest idea in the world but I'm still alive so I guess it turned out okay... Meanwhile McCoy rolls the window down and asks the dude if he wants to come over and play xbox... KIDS!

I thought these had some great bones.  It just needed a little life breathed into it.  This project took me all of about 1 day.  My husband helped me paint and sand, which was awesome since I usually can't wait for him to come home before I get going.  I know it's somewhat predictable but I really really like how it turned out and hope to find a great new home for it soon.
I just used regular Home Depot Glidden paint, but then used annie sloan wax for the aged look.  I kept the original pulls since the size was so unique they didn't even sell any at all in either of my local hardware stores. I thought they actually looked really good once the hutch was white.

After I was finished with this and as it was sitting in my garage my sweet child who shall remain nameless opened the car door rather swiftly and with much strength and put a huge crack in the plexiglass... Yes it was plexiglass not actual glass.  So it sat in my garage broken all summer until I got some handy dandy chicken wire and fixed this little problem of ours right up.  It was on craigslist of a total of about an hour before there was a biding war.  So nameless child.... THANK YOU

My boy's baptism. Theme I like to look for rainbows!

When my little's baptismal date was coming up I knew I wanted a theme.  I like CTR but I needed something else to go with it, so where did I turn to?  PINTEREST! Of course.  I love the song
                                             "When I am baptized"

Saw this on pinterest and had my friend make it
                                                              It turned out AMAZING!

I went a little ROY G BIV nuts
I had one of our Young Women sing this primary song and I passed out the words.  We invited a lot of friends who were not members of our faith and it was good to be able to share such a wonderful and important day with them, and include them.

Instead of cutting the cake for everyone (we had over 100 people attend) we decided to do the oreos and that way the kids could just grab them.  I would recommend next time suggesting two per kid.  They were taking one of each color and we ran out.

A HUGE salad and yummy fruit bowl was very refreshing and a perfect side to our bbq

A'hoy Matey

I actually have zero idea why but bead board reminds me of planked wood and then that reminds me of planks, then onto pirates from there.  So here is my pirate planked desk redo
So I sanded it COMPLETELY down on the top so I could a nice new coat of dark walnut stain.  Then I sanded the rest but not all the way down.  Next I painted it white... after the stain was completely dry I added two coats of polyurethane to make it shiny as well as protect it. I loved this flip and it lasted on craigslist for about half of a day before it was out of my garage and life forever.  I was sad to see it go, I really like this desk.  I also kept the original hardware which saves $ and I thought it was a nice contrast.

See what I mean about the planks.... no?

I recently photographed a wedding reception of my good friend.  It was an outdoor barn type of reception (the 2nd reception) so it was super casual and AWESOME.  I just wanted to post a few of the cool things at the wedding that pertain to furniture remixing.. some do not but I like them and it's my blog and I can post if I want to, post if I want to, post if I want to.
Sorry.

This buggy is from 1917 and is original to the farm.  The date was carved into the seat!  I just LOVE stuff like that.

I love the way the wedding photos were displayed.  So creative and eye catching.

I just thought these were the cutest and cheapest.. in a great way, ideas for an outdoor wedding!

Kitchron chairs.
Kitchen/Chevron.. stretch?  Ah well it's been a long week and this remix speaks mostly for itself.

$2.75 per chair.  These beauts were in decent shape.  I hated the gold mixed with the outer space speckled paint on the rest of the chair, but there aint too many things easier to repaint than metal.

So with a can of spray paint and some awesome fabric 40% off I cooked up something sizzlin'

Keepin' it Classy

Saturdays often are filled with basketball, soccer, cleaning, grocery shopping and lots of other obligations squished all in between.  But every now and again in between these events I find myself sneaking off to the Goodwill or thrift store.  I'm hoping to move up to the BIG LEAGUES sometime in the near future and venture off to a flea market, but I dream.

I found a boring predictable office chair at the GOODWILL and took her home with me for about 5$

I had a can of Black high gloss spray paint, a screw driver, a staple gun, and some cute fabric and I gave her a new outfit.  Hope she gets the job done and gets noticed in the office now!

It was just like an episode of "What not to wear" well maybe not EXACTLY like an episode but still.
